TORREVIEJA SPORTS BUDGETS HANDED OUT

Even in times of crisis, sport is an important aspect of daily life in Torrevieja and the surrounding area. To this end, some of Torrevieja's sports teams received various grants, totalling €272,616, to help with the day to day expenses of running their clubs.

Former Torrevieja Handball player and Mayor Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Daniel Plaza, reported that on Friday morning, the Local Government Committee approved the award of grants to various local sports clubs for 2012,

As per the approved budget for the city these funds are distributed as set-out by the Regulations for Torrevieja's Sport Organization Grants. The parameters of evaluation for the subsidy have found, for example, movement of club teams, implementation of the national sport, arbitration cost of each team in the development of league and cup competitions, category in which military, the club's annual budget, monitors charge at the Municipal Sports Schools.

As if this is not confusing enough, in essence, for example, Torrevieja's Handball Team plays in the higher tiers of the National Spanish league and thus receives a larger part of the pie.

The amount to each club for this annuity 2012 is as follows: Club Torrevieja Handball (140,556 euros). Club Deportivo Torrevieja (61,750 euros), Torrevieja Football Club (27,732 euros), Real Club Nautico de Torrevieja (12,958 euros), Torrevieja Tennis Club (6820 euros), Rowing Club Torrevieja (5592 euros), Rhythmic Gymnastics Club Torrevieja (3296 euros), Athletics Club Torrevieja (3,046 euros), Millennium Athletics Club Torrevieja (3,046 euros), Cycling Club Torrevieja (2,546 euros), Torrevieja Swimming Club (1,864 euros), Billiards Club Torrevieja (1,705 euros), Judo Club Torrevieja (1,023 euros), Grup d'Esplai Esportiu Association Agility (341 euros) and Paddle Club Torrevieja (341 euros).

These amounts were all less than budgeted for originally with the biggest casualty being the Torrevieja Football Club, who have had to cut wages, the result being that four of the teams top players have left and moved to newer pastures.
