YOU’RE NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN SOME NEW TRICKS

Soundman Bill

NEVER judge a book by its cover or more importantly anyone you meet by a first impression because more often than not, what will surprise you is that everyone has a few secrets up their sleeve and there is always something to be learnt.

And the word learning is very appropriate because if you head off to see the very funny and entertaining ‘Paella and Chips', that's being performed by the Showgroup Torrevieja this week, divert your eyes from stage centre and you'll spot the Showgroup's sound man, Bill, who not content with helping the group behind the scenes, sorting out the sound system, painting scenery and making props, has just achieved his G.C.S.E grade in Spanish, at the tender age of just 73!

Bill drove H.G.V's for a living after leaving the army, got a taste of the entertainment world as a Butlins Red Coat in 1965 and is always up for a challenge. After moving to Spain in Sept 2004, he decided a little Spanish Language knowledge was essential to help integrated with his Spanish neighbours. He sat through a few school-based classes in La Zenia but decided he wanted to pick up the pace and find a local teacher for one to one sessions. This has proved to be very successful and Bill has just passed his grades in Written & Reading Spanish.

Bill is playing a major part of the back stage and sound crew for the Showgroup's next production of Paella & Chips which is on stage at La Rustkia 8th, 9th & 10th February 2012. Tickets are now available from Jenny on 608 129 983 / 966 181 951 priced at €8.00 euros. Doors open at 7.00pm, curtain up 7.30pm with a Pre-show meal available for which bookings are required. Well done Bill, who goes to prove that you are never too old to learn new tricks.
