ORIHUELA ACTS ON BAR AND VENUE LICENSING
![]()
In a press conference on Thursday, the council of Orihuela announced that two licensing officers are being appointed, who will start their duties with immediate effect, in order for the town hall and business owners to resolve the issue of licensing that caused problems during the summer of 2011.
The officers will begin an audit of venues, giving an immediate priority to key locations on the Orihuela Costa, compiling a database of venues and licenses that are in place, as well as preparing a list of licenses that will be required by those venues that do not currently comply with the law of the Valencia region.
Although the licensing officers will operate in an official capacity enforcing license conditions, there role will be as much about advising business owners of what they may require in both terms of licenses to trade, but also in advising where modifications to buildings or structures may also be required to comply with the business practice that is taking place at the venues.
Councillor for the coast, Bob Houliston said that he is “glad a start has been made” and that the whole point will be to ensure that business owners can hold their licenses on a permanent basis, removing any doubt as to what is required to satisfy the needs of everybody concerned.
Ultimately, non payment of taxes and fines will be administered by the team in conjunction with the local police and the town hall, but this is a positive move in ensuring that everybody knows their legal position and it will provide the much needed support to those businesses that chose to operate in a correct, responsible and legal manner.
