Police are investigating the death of an 82 year old man, whose body was found next to a railway line on the Caudete to Sax route this week.

Although not being treated as suspicious, officers are baffled by the circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who showed no signs of having been struck by a train, or having suffered any other obvious cause of death.

Two hours earlier in the day, fire fighters were called to a house fire in an apartment block on the ground floor of a building on calle Luis Cernuda de Villena. The fire was extinguished and an initial examination revealed that the source of the fire may have been at several locations.

An ambulance was also called to deal with a woman who was at the scene, believed to by the owner, who was suffering anxiety and distress as her husband was missing.

The man, it later transpired, was the body that was found at the side of the railway line.

Despite evacuating the building during the fire, officials report that nobody was injured and they are now focusing their investigation on the death of the man.
