EARTHQUAKE GROUP SET UP

A working group was set up this week in Torrevieja with a view to creating an action plan that covers the municipality in the event of an earthquake.

The group includes members from town halls, the emergency services, medics, engineers, technicians and planners, and it is hoped that a collective plan can be developed should a major disaster hit the area as that of 1829 when hundreds of people were killed.

NEW MRI SCAN IN TORREVIEJA HOSPITAL

The Department of Radiology at the Torrevieja Hospital has implemented new technology that reduces scan time and improves magnetic resonance diagnostic quality in all conditions.

The MRI scanner received a major upgrade of software and hardware that cost over 385,000 euro, but it increases the quality of the images, achieving a significant improvement in the diagnostics and a greater guarantee of safety for patients.

WILD BOAR TO BE HUNTED IN LA SOLANA

A total of sixty hunters have been licensed to hunt wild boar in La Solana, located in the natural park of la Font Roja in the north Alicante area of l'Alcoiá on Saturday, in a move that is approved by the local environmental councillors, to try to control and reduce the numbers of animals which are considered a pest as they eat flowers and plants.

Last year, seventy animals were shot and killed and the organisers are hoping for even more this year and have sought to increase the hunting opportunities in the area.

NATIONAL REGISTER OF BIKES TO BE LAUNCHED

A trial is to start in February in Zaragoza, with a view to start a national wide database of push bikes, which will allow owners to be reunited with their property, should it become stolen.

The mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, announced that he had been in talks with various cycle groups this week and discussed matters that may lead to greater safety and security for cyclists in Spain.

JOIN THE TORREVIEJA GIN AND COCKTAIL ROUTE

Following on from the success of the well know ‘Tapas Route' events, the city of Torrevieja has now devised a variation and invites you to take part in their first ‘Gin and Cocktail Route' campaign.

Starting on Thursday 2nd February and running until the following Sunday, visitors will be able to sample a gin based drink, or a cocktail, with non alcohol versions being available, for a set price in one of the many participating drink establishments in the city. Then, you will be able to have your route passport stamped and enter into a prize draw, once you have visited 6 of the venues.
