IT'S QUICKER BY BUS
At least three thousand rail passengers had to be transported by bus to and from Alicante yesterday due to robberies that had taken place on the train lines. The only direct routes still open from Alicante were to Murcia and Elche. This in effect meant that thirteen trains each to Barcelona and Madrid had to be altered as well as those to other destinations. The problem is expected to be sorted out later today
BENIDORM INVESTMENT
The Sol Melia group that has a worldwide chain of 350 luxury hotels, has said that it will invest in four hotels in the holiday town of Benidorm. Two of these will be directly under the control of the group and one of these will be the Melia Benidorm set in the Rincon der Loix area
GOOD TO TALK
New Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is said to be beginning a campaign in Europe to erase the image of his predecessor, with one party source stating that with the previous government, phone calls were scarce, but now they call us constantly. Since taking over the reins of Government, it would seem that Mr Rajoy has never sat still, and today will see him attending his first international summit in Brussels
SON OF ORIHUELA
Dozens of people attended a function on Saturday evening which saw the appointment of Pedro Cartagena as a Son of the city of Orihuela. Cartagena was accompanied to the Teatro Circo by his wife, where he gratefully accepted the appointment from the municipal authorities in front of many friends and members of his family.
Councillor for Protocol, Pedro Mancebo, reviewed the political history of Cartagena, who served as mayor of the city of Orihuela between 1970 and 1979
