U3A DECEMBER

The Torrevieja Branch of the U3A held their Christmas Meeting at the La Rustica Restaurant on Tuesday 13/12/11.

As usual the meeting was very well attended and the members were entertained by two excellent Groups. The meeting started with a rousing rendering of ‘There Are Blue Birds Over The White Cliffs of Dover'. This came as a surprise to the Chairman and alluded to the recent very successful German Christmas Market trip. This was followed by seven members of Wordplay, a local writers group, who provided laughter and some thought with a selection of poetry and prose. The applause reflected the appreciation and quality of the work produced by the members of Wordplay. This was followed by Nigel Hopkins, choir master of ‘In Harmony', and the choir. They sang 12 pieces including such favourites as ‘King Wenceslas', ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing' and ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High'. Also included were Carols from the Ukraine and others from the 16th and 17th Century. The audience participated with enthusiasm and gusto. The members were reminded of the Associations move from La Rustica to the CMO building in Torrevieja, and of the change of day for monthly meetings starting with the AGM on Monday 30th January 2012.
