Spain is getting HOT

SPAIN WAS HOTTER THAN EVER

According to data released by the Spanish Meteorological office, 2011 was one of the hottest years on record since 1961. However, they also say that the winter will be “cold”, but with almost no risk of snow.

Although July was a little cooler than previous years, caused by cloud cover, August was hotter than normal and in April, temperatures were 1.8 degrees higher than the average recorded since 1961.

However, there was also slightly more rain than the average of previous years, but this was mostly in smaller, compacted areas.

DAY OF INTEGRATION IN ORIHUELA

Hundreds of people gathered in Orihuela this week to celebrate the International Day of Migrants, enabling many different cultures from around the world to share their lifestyle and experiences with visitors to the event.

A total of ten associations took part with displays of dance, music and culture on a specially made stage under the shade of the city´s Christmas tree.

ALICANTE AIRPORT ABLAZE

A major fire at Alicante airport was set to test the skills of emergency crews on Wednesday when live fire would be used to make the training simulation more realistic.

Kept well away from the daily operations, the simulation is designed to test the usability of emergency crews and to make recommendations should the need for an actual emergency arise.

EXPLOSION THREAT ARRESTS

Officers of the National Police have arrested a 36 year old Spanish national, on a charge of breaking and entry, after a two hour stand of on Tuesday in which he threatened to blow up a gas cylinder in the property he was in.

Officers were called to a property in Mislata after witnesses believed there had been a burglary. Officers found that the arrestee was indeed inside a property, which was not theirs, resulting in the threats to ignite the potentially devastating device.

THE HILLS WILL BE ALIVE

The internationally renowned musical The Sound of Music will visit Valencia, from February to April, and Alicante from April to May, as part of a new leg of the tour that has already played to more than 45 million people in 24 countries.

Starting its Spanish debut on the island of Tenerife this month, the tour will feature 26 performers, a 10 piece live orchestra and countless other support staff for the 2 hour show, featuring 22 scenery changes and 140 different costumes.
