WATER RISE FOR ORIHUELA

The cost of supplying water to households of the municipality of Orihuela will rise by 7.5% in 2012, meaning an increase of about 2,50 euro per month for an average household.

The price increase has been announced as part of a funding plan to ensure that the network can be maintained and improved throughout the next year.

BRITISH MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN CRASH

A 40 year old British motorcyclist has died in a collision with a driving school car on the N-332 coast road at El Campello, near Alicante.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated but witnesses have said that the motorcycle strayed into the path of the car being driven by a student driver, accompanied by an instructor and another student.

An emergency ambulance was quick to the scene but the team were unable to revive the biker. The occupants of the car were taken to hospital for treatment.

TOURISM TRAINING SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The tourism training centre in Torrevieja has announced 34 training courses for the New Year, which will provide work related opportunities for over 500 people.

With training packages on subjects such as cooking, room service, healthy eating and similar hospitality based roles; the courses will provide certification to those who continue to attend this flagship of training in the city.

COPPER WIRE ARRESTS

Officers from the National Police in Elche have arrested two men and two women, three of whom are Romanian and the fourth a Spaniard, all under the age of 37, accused of a crime of theft after they were caught trying to sell copper wire to a junk yard in the city.

It is believed that the cable had been removed from the street lighting network, specifically on the A70 motorway between Elche and Monforte el Cid.

They have appeared before the duty magistrate in Elche, with the exception of one of them who, at age 17, will be made available to the juvenile court.

CARTAGENA PARTY TIME CRACK DOWN

Local police officers in Cartagena have been monitoring social network sites to enable them to identify potentially illegal New Year´s eve parties in unlicensed premises.

Already, investigators have identified three parties that were to be held in either private premises or a warehouse, in one case. The town hall have stressed that all public gatherings need the appropriate licenses to ensure they comply with public safety legislation.
