HOULISTON MEETING WITH LORENTE ANGERS MAYOR

Houliston says he is determined to get a fair deal for the coast

Lonely, isolated and barely speaks! That is how the Spanish daily Newspaper Informacion describes the Councillor for the Coast, Bob Houliston in an article published this morning (Saturday).

One reason, perhaps, is that, despite constant pressure from the ‘bully boys' in Orihuela, he is the only councillor prepared to stand up for what he sees as the rights of coastal voters, and after the treatment and bad press he seems to get almost on a daily basis perhaps his meeting with PP Spokesperson Monica Lorente on Wednesday afternoon was hardly unexpected.

However, it appears that upon hearing of the meeting, the mayor, Monseratte Guillen, was less than pleased, calling for an immediate explanation from the coastal councillor, but after a private discussion between the two Guillen is said to have fully accepted his explanations leaving the meeting more than happy as he then went on to address another problem that could end up dividing the Orihuela council: the rift between the PSOE and the CLR.

The dispute between Houliston and the remainder of his fellow councillors centres around the new council budget from which the Councillor is asking for an allocation of between 5 and 6 million euro, for the coast, from an estimated annual budget of 59 million euros.

He has reportedly refused to join the remainder of his colleagues in ‘signing off' the new budget until he receives an allocation somewhat better than the 2 million euros which is said to have been offered.
