HOULISTON HITS BACK AT MANCEBO

Following his expulsion from the CLR-CLARO Group, Bob Houliston, the Orihuela Councillor for the Coast, has decided, in his words “to put the record straight.” At a press conference last week he issued a release in which he stated that the reasons for his expulsion, provided by Pedro Mancebo, citing contact and conversations with the Partido Popular, were “a complete invention.”
He denied that any such conversations had taken place saying that the accusations were simply an invention, a direct campaign by Mancebo to divide the management of the coast and reduce Houliston's responsibilities and influence as Councillor for the Coast. He said they were intended to create confusion in the minds of officials in the Town Hall and the public at large and were very much against the interests of the residents of the Orihuela Costa.
As a ‘free agent' no longer with any obligation to toe the CLR-CLARO party line Houliston said that he was convinced that the reason for the offensive against the C.L.A.R.O. team in Playa Flamenca was political.
He said that the CLR has fallen into the “squeezed middle” of Orihuela politics with a future neither to the political left nor to the right. “By this reckoning, the only political future for CLR is in Orihuela Costa and this is the reason for Mancebo's offensive against C.L.A.R.O. (where in two elections we have received majority support) in complete violation of the electoral alliance which had served both our interests so well.”
Houliston went on to say that the final efforts to divide C.L.A.R.O. came in the last few days prior to the Annual General Meeting when Pedro Mancebo began a direct e-mail campaign among C.L.A.R.O. members (a highly irregular and unauthorised practice). However the Party members stood firm and are now more united than ever.
He concluded in saying that there is now a strong resentment of the attempts by Pedro Mancebo and the CLR to divide, weaken and destroy the party of the coast, for their own political gain. “C.L.A.R.O. will go on supporting the present government but in a more independent position than before the expulsion and will continue to fight for the interests of the Coast.”
