CHEAP RENT FOR THE HOMELESS CAMPAIGN
![]()
A group of people representing those directly affected by the economic crisis have held a rally in front of the CAM bank in Elche on Tuesday, campaigning for them to allow affected residents to live in the vacant properties that the bank are trying to sell.
Quoting around 40 families that face eviction, nine of whom may be out on the streets within a month, the group believe that moving them into the vacant properties under a “social housing” scheme is the best solution for all.
In the first nine months of this year, around 8,000 foreclosures were recorded in Alicante province. Allowing people to move into the vacant property would both ensure that they have a place to live and would also guarantee some income for the struggling bank who have been left burdened with some of the properties that they are unable to sell.
