A WEEK OF FESTIVITIES IN TORREVIEJA
![]()
The Patronal Fiestas are well under way in Torrevieja. Already we have seen the Giants and Bigheads roaming the streets followed by the floral offering at the Inmaculada Church on Saturday and a full day of activities on Sunday which included the annual 13-km cycle ride around Torrevieja.
On Saturday after the floral offering took place, the miniature nativity or Belen scene opened to the public, which each year attracts tens-of-thousands of visitors to the Church Square to photograph the display and to work out which Torrevieja scenes are mixed in with those of ancient Egypt and the Middle East!
Sunday was the third edition of Associations Day, in the Marquee Tent located in the Fairground area, which attracted a few thousand people to find out information about local clubs, societies and associations in the City. This year also marks the 25th or Silver Anniversary of the Hymn of Torrevieja, which will be celebrated during the week. Tuesday is the first Red Day but some local attractions are open including the "Our People, Our Streets" showcase in the exhibition hall Vista-Alegre.
On December 7th, the annual and very prestigious Diego Ramirez prizes are awarded to a local individual and a group, who are deemed to have helped promote or improve life for those that live in the city, or have dedicated their life for the good of the city. On December 8th, the second Red Day, it will be all action in the Marina Salinas port area, as the Force India F1 Car along with Driver Adrian Sutil will be making an appearance alongside Torrevieja's Mayor Eduaro Dolon, with the action starting around noon with a display of Classic Cars followed at 1300-hrs by the arrival of Dolon and Sutil by luxury Yacht.
The 8th is the day of the Immaculate Conception and Eduardo Dolon, along with his team of councillors, will celebrate the Eucharist.
Each evening, starting at around 21.30 in the Marquee on the waterfront, there are a variety of Spanish artists performing for your listening and dancing pleasure. Not part of the official festivities but worthy of note are the Rascals who will be performing their Christmas Show. This year's theme being music of the four seasons, in the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre starting at the earlier than usual time of 1900-hrs.
Tickets are just €5.00 from the theatre box office and includes a drink and something to nibble on upon entry.
Consult the Cultural Guide for more details of all local Torrevieja events over this holiday week and don't forget that most banks and public building will be closed for three days from the 6 through 8 December, inclusive.
