LOCAL SCHOOL FORCED TO CLOSE

Orihuela town hall has forced the closure of a local school which was set up in a commercial centre located at El Horizonte in the Laguna II urbanization on the Orihuela Costa.

Antonio Zapata from the Orihuela council explained that the local police made ​​a report stating that the school had no business license and that it failed to comply with health and safety standards established for this type of facility.

Hundreds of children from Torrevieja and Guardamar took part in a day of awareness of teeth and oral hygiene on Monday.

The day was organised by the Torrevieja health department and brought four dentists, two optometrists, a dental hygienist and more than a dozen nurses to the groups of children, with their parents, to learn the importance of cleaning their teeth.

SCHOOL´S OUT FOR WINTER

Up to 3,000 school children are being kept off school on Tuesday in Jávea, due to a risk of heavy rain in the area.

The decision was made after forecasters suggested that rain may cause problems, and even if the rain stays away from the coast, there is still a risk of flooding from inland water flows.

RAIN STOPS FISHING

The rain and storms that led through the weekend and into the start of the week has meant that most of the regions fishing boats were unable to set sail.

A small number of boats attempted to leave port, but were quick to return. Only a very small number of trawlers were successful in setting sail, leading to a short term lack of stock.

PUPPETS COME TO ALICANTE

The fourteenth international puppet festival of Alicante will be taking place between the 1st and 10th of December, bringing together puppeteers from nine countries and countless examples of their models.

The festival, organized by the city of Alicante, in collaboration with the Teatro de la Generalitat and the Caja Mediterraneo (CAM) offers a compendium of traditional puppetry and new trends that include innovative approaches to the art form.
