BENIDORM NEARLY BUSTING

Hotel occupancy in the first half of October in Benidorm has been 93.3%, an increase of 5.3% over the occupation recorded last year in this period.

There is significant occupation recorded in 4-star hotels, standing almost full at 94.2%, followed by 3-star hotels with occupancy of 92.6% and 95.3% of the 2-star premises.

SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS DEMOTED

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has chosen not to renew the posts of three senior police officers, who had been in the role for the past few years. They will now be demoted and returned to active service.

The reason for this has not been made public, but Dolón had promised to sort out the deficiencies in the local police from the previous leadership.

LEND ME YOUR EYES

Fourteen people have subscribed as volunteers to a service dubbed "Préstame tus ojos" or “lend me your eyes”, which will see them reading books and newspapers to those with visual impairment.

Eight of the team have attended the public nursing home in Torrevieja, whereas the other six have attended other centres who had applied to be considered for the breakthrough scheme.

CLEANLINESS COMPLAINTS FROM LOS MONTESINOS

The Partido Popular in Los Montisinos have criticized the lack of street cleaning following the fiesta in the town. They say that residents are now lodging complaints with them that not only did they have to endure the noise and inconvenience during the event, they also have to deal with the aftermath as nobody has cleared up the mess that was made by the revellers.

CABLE THIEVES ARRESTED

Officers of the Policía Local in San Javier have arrested two Spanish men, a father of 60 years of age and his son of 30 years of age, accused of stealing electric cable from street lights in San Blas and the industrial estate of El Pino.

The men were seen driving around the industrial estate and were stopped by a patrol who found cable in their vehicle. The son fled the scene but both men were later detained and around 300 metres of cable recovered, which has cost the town council some 20,000 euro in loss and damage.
