SCHOOL BUS FIASCO UPDATE
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has said that withdrawing the free school transport scheme was the “hardest decision in his life”.
He went on to say that he has a responsibility to the whole of Torrevieja to sort out the finances for the future. A solution to the crisis, which means that parent would have to pay to transport their children to school, would be found in the next few days.
RUNNING IN SAN FULGENCIO
Around 250 runners took part in the San Fulgencio run on Sunday, which saw them leave the urbanisation of La Marina for a 10 kilometre run.
Two laps, over ground of varying degrees of difficulty, saw the runners challenged to the finish, where the winners received gifts that had been donated by the local sports department.
ROWERS MEET IN TORREVIEJA
The meeting of the founders of Torrevieja Rowing Club took place in the harbour this morning, when the group that was established in 2006 met to share stories and tales of their exploits over lunch in the city.
SUPPORTING CHILDREN
Hundreds of people visited an exhibition and display in Orihuela on Sunday, arranged by the International Red Cross, to highlight the campaign against the exploitation of children in Africa.
Council dignitaries also attended the event which saw workshops, demonstrations and presentations on the plight of young people and the lives that they are often led into.
EDUCATING RUSSIANS
Russian nationals, living in Torrevieja, will be able to partake in a series of educational programs to learn about the history of their homeland and their integration into Spain, looking back at the history of Torrevieja from a Russian perspective, and investigating their own families.
The town hall announced the initiative based on findings that Russian children were already being taught these lessons in their own home and have made the move to encourage the future development of Torrevieja and Russia, preparing the students for a future in Spain, or if they wish to return to Russia.
