S.A.T. ANIMAL CHARITY ANNUAL FUN DAY

The S.A.T. animal charity held their annual fun day on Thursday 25th August to help raise much needed funds.

In true traditional local fayre style, there were cake stalls, bric a brac, tombola and a raffle as well as entertainment throughout the day. Despite the intense heat, visitors showed up in support of the event held at the local S.A.T. shop in urbanisation La Marina and organiser and manager of the charity shop Evelin says they host a fun day twice a year. Last year 800€ was raised and Evelin hopes to raise a substantial amount from Thursday's event to help the charity with their continued care of stray and abandoned dogs. The centre's average monthly veterinary bill is in the region of 5000€ so every last cent makes a big difference.

Formed in 1992 by a small group of dog lovers, the charity, which receives no funding from either the regional or central government, has taken in almost 7000 dogs to its sanctuary in Dolores which was opened in 1999. To help meet increasing costs for vets bills and dog food, S.A.T. relies entirely on generous donations from the public and help from its volunteers and is supported by the five charity shops in La Marina, Guardamar, Almoradi, San Luis and Los Montesinos. There is also a stall at the British Indoor Market in Formentera which helps raise funds.

S.A.T. is always grateful for new volunteers and anyone interested in giving a few hours a week can call the kennels on 966 710 047.
