VECINOS COLABORANDO – ORIHUELA COSTA
Neighbourhood Watch have received a report of an Orihuela Costa resident being stopped whilst on the M 50 at Madrid.
A plain car signalled him to pull in with the occupant in plain clothes showing what appeared to be a police badge. On doing so they were robbed of a purse containing money. The car involved later turned out to be a hire car, probably stolen.
Their advice is not to stop when signalled to do so by persons appearing to be Police. It is normal for the Police in Spain NOT to use plain cars to stop other vehicle, they call up a uniform car to do so. If possible obtain the number of the car and contact 112. In the past we have been informed of plain “police” cars operating on the roads near to Alicante airport trying to stop people who have just arrived.
Similar incidents have been reported from time to time in the vicinity of Barcelona and robberies have taken place on Service Stations and Rest Areas. Try and park where there are people about. Always lock your car even when sitting inside it and do not leave items on show.
