Torrevieja U3A held their monthly meeting on Thursday 28th April at La Rustika bar/restaurant (formerly Los Arcos).
U3A members were treated to a fascinating talk by guest speaker Vivien Heywood of Lace & Costume, Santa Pola. The subject was ‘Victorian Life and Clothing'. Eleven of the lady members and one gentleman took the opportunity to be dressed by Vivien in a range of garments dating from the early 1800's and ending with a member dressed as Queen Victoria: see photograph. Vivien also explained the use and purpose of the clothes. She produced a further wide range of garments and gave information on the materials used and the historical background of the social conditions pertaining to the clothes.
The launch of the new U3A website was also announced and members had the opportunity to see a power point presentation on the new site by Joe Christie, a new, and much valued U3A member who has designed and developed the new site which can be found at www.torreviejau3a.org. The next meeting will be held on Thursday 26th May at 10.30am at La Rustika when the guest speaker will be Graham Knight on the subject of Torrevieja: Salt and Habaneras.
