CLR-C.L.A.R.O. INTEGRATION FIESTA

The CLR.-C.L.A.R.O. Integration Fiesta held at the Celtic Isle on Saturday, 14 May was a great success. The theme of integration is key to the alliance between the two parties and to their joint election programme.
Bob Houliston stressed that integration was indispensable in Orihuela Costa due to the number of residents of different nationalities living here. It had been a key feature of C.L.A.R.O. whose Executive Committee is composed of Spanish, British, German and Austrian members; the wider membership includes many other nationalities. The alliance with Centro Liberal Renovador take this integration a step further and makes possible integration of Orihuela Cost with our neighbours in Orihuela city and surrounding districts.
The programme for the Integration Fiesta included Flamenco dancers from Raquel Peña's amateur company, most of whom are non-Spanish. Under the inspired direction of Raquel Peña they showed their enthusiasm for this classical form of Spanish culture.
The dancers were followed by guitar players and flamenco singers from the San Anton district of Orihuela. This group, comprising three generations from the same family, delighted the big crowd on Market Day who attended the Fiesta.
Greetings were made in Spanish, English, German and Norwegian. The Fiesta included a Raffle, the proceeds from which will be donated to the Red Cross for the victims of the Lorca earthquake disaster.
Speaking in English, Pedro Mancebo, the Mayoral candidate of the CLR-C.L.A.R.O. alliance closed the proceedings, recalling how he had worked and studied in the United Kingdom and was a convinced integrationist. Bringing Orihuela city, including outlying districts and Orihuela Costa together physically (by a fast road link and public transport), as well as economically and culturally would be key policies of a CLR-C.L.A.R.O. government after the election on 22 May.
