AIRPORT BUS SERVICE UNDERWAY IN TORREVIEJA

Rather disappointing to say the least with just 42 passengers using the new service between Torrevieja Bus Station and Alicante Airport launched last Tuesday with a total of 16 services, 8 in each direction.
You can work out the average number using each bus yourself but suffice to say that unless there is a major uptake the service won't be running for too much longer.
Having said that there was little publicity given to the new route by Costa Azul which forecasts approximately a hundred thousand passengers in its first year.
Costa Azul say they expect an average of 70 to 90 passengers daily, which will increase greatly during the summer.
The price of a one way ticket for this direct service is just euro 6.79, below the seven euros which the operator hoped they would be able to maintain.
Next week the company hope to start an advertising campaign with the distribution of 2500 brochures in addition to posters which will be displayed at the airport.
It is also envisaged that some low cost airlines will offer the bus service within the price of their tickets.
One passenger who did use the service said that it will save him a hundred euros in a taxi which he will now be able to spend in the city.
The schedule from Torrevieja to El Altet is every two hours between 7am and 9pm in the evening. From the airport there will be buses departing from 8am, also at intervals of two hours until 10pm.
