TORREVIEJA’S SPRING CULTURAL PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

Hot on the heals of the opening of Torrevieja's new Conservatory Auditorium, the city's program of Cultural events for the Spring was launched last week.

Highlights of the programme include performances by Hombres G, Pasión Vega and the comedic brothers Los Morancos” in the Municipal Theatre, concerts from Pastora Soler, Manu Tenorio, and Valderrama in the May Fair, “40 El Musical”

The Municipal Theatre-Auditorium and especially with the expat audience in mind, two concerts of international importance: The Commitments plus Richard Street and The Temptations. In total, there are 298 activities on offer for a budget of just under €200,000.

With a budget of €196,447, the 298 varied activities include: 68 music concerts, 43 workshops, 34 theatre works, 20 talks and conferences, 10 galas, nine children's performances and five competitions, with the participation of 35 associations during the months of April, May and June 2011.

Torrevieja's Councillor for Culture Eduardo Dolón announced that 20,000 copies of the cultural programme, as well as the special discounts of 20% for the tickets of the shows available for youngsters with “Carnet Jove”, pensioners and the unemployed, are now available from Torrevieja's public facilities and Tourist offices.

The Councillor for Culture and Festivities stated that “the Municipal Institute of Culture is offering a high quality cultural programme with plenty of varied cultural activities for all the publics, as well as supporting and promoting events and performances from local musical and cultural associations.”

The most outstanding events included in the Spring 2011 Cultural programme are the Spanish-style “zarzuela” operetta “La Revoltosa” at the Municipal Theatre, the 17th Habaneras Youth Contest from 8th to 10th April in the brand new International Auditorium of Music; Spanish comedic duo, the brothers “Los Morancos” known as “Más Morancos que nunca” on Saturday 16th April; the 25th International Choir Meeting “Ciudad de Torrevieja”

From 28th April to 1st May organised by the “Francisco Vallejos” Choir, in the International Auditorium of Music; the short film exhibition “Primera Edición Torrevieja Audivisual” dedicated to “Los Goya” awards, from 5th to 7th May, in the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre and organised by Turmalina Films; the concert of the Spanish singer Pasión Vega, on Wednesday 18th May in the Theatre-Auditorium of Torrevieja; the performance of the mythical Spanish pop group “Hombres G”,

On Saturday 21 May in the Municipal Theatre; the famous Spanish play “Amar en tiempos revueltos”, on Saturday 11th June in the Municipal Theatre; as well as the different performances in the 2011 May Fair, which this year will run from 11th to 15th May: “Chaskio” will perform on Wednesday 11th May, Pastora Soler on Thursday 12th May, Valderrama on Friday 13th May, Manue Tenorio on Saturday 14th May, and Antonio “el torero” and Raquel Morey on Sunday 15th May.

There are a few different and special activities offered during the Spring Cultural Programme including: the first Book Day Gala (24th April in the Municipal Theatre); the first Local Theatre Exhibition, from 2nd to 8th May, with the participation of five theatre groups from Torrevieja; the first European Theatre Exhibition, from 30th June to 5th July; different animation activities for children in the different Plazas of the city, from 3rd to 6th May “Baila con Bob Esponja”, and “El secreto de la Isla Mágica” from 24th to 27th May. These performances for children will be held in the Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza de Oriente, Plaza de la Habana, Plaza de la Estación and Plaza de Garpar Perelló in La Mata.

Better get out your diary as never let it be said that there is nothing to do in Torrevieja to keep you occupied! For the most part, entrance is free or priced under €10:00, with the exception of the bigger name artists. Eduardo Dolon highlighted two concerts of international importance to be held in the Municipal Theatre-Auditorium of Torrevieja, from The Commitments, 23rd April, and The Temptations, 10th June.

Other highlights that you should plan for over the Spring include the Tapas Route which starts April 27th, Torrevieja Cup youth football tournament, Water Polo and Synchronised swimming competitions, an inaugural season of performances at the new International Conservatory Auditorium and, least we forget, the Semana Santa Processions.
