DAY OUT FOR THE FREEWHEELERS

DAY OUT FOR THE FREEWHEELERS

Februarys outing for the Freewheelers saw 32 of them visit the miniature railway at Torrellano which also houses the small railway museum all run by a club of enthusiasts.

On the warmest day of the year so far the club were running 5 trains, two of which were steam!

There was quite a large crowd of people there, mostly Spanish with youngsters although it has to be said that there were more adults riding the trains than children, although some were nursing tiny tot's, but not all!

There is also a Museum in the adjacent building which also houses a model railway which is still under construction, both "N" and OO/HO gauge, but this was not open to the public on the day we visited, something we was privy to on our reconnaissance visit. The museum has a collection of equipment used in the past including some uniforms and a large collection of caps. One amusing piece of equipment was a pair of large air horns on a wheelbarrow frame and operated by a hand pump! At the request of the station master the Freewheelers had brought quite a few Classic cars which also attracted quite a bit of interest, in fact a lady from the in-flight catering company next door came out to take pictures of the cars.

Lunch was taken at the San Rafael on the main street, with a menu del dia of 18 starters and 20 main courses there was something for everybody. Very Spanish, very good! Another great day.
