MORE AND MORE CLASSIC CARS ON THE COSTA BLANCA

Now in its tenth month, another three new vehicles showed up for the first time, among them a replica of the famous General Lee Charger from the hit TV Series and Film, ‘The Dukes of Hazard’.

It's sometimes hard to motivate oneself to get out and about on a cold evening, but last weekend the chilly weather did not put off a dozen owners of classic and specialist cars for the end of the month Noche del Coche.

Now in its tenth month, another three new vehicles showed up for the first time, among them a replica of the famous General Lee Charger from the hit TV Series and Film, ‘The Dukes of Hazard'. A brand new car to Spain, owner Anthony just drove the 6.3 litre beast all the way from England via Santander to Torrevieja and this was the first event that he showed off his new pride and joy.

He neglected to tell us what his petrol mileage per gallon for trip was but it cost less to drive than to have the car transported on a Grua and he enjoyed the drive.

Over 50 visitors made the effort to travel to Marina Salinas and see what all the fuss was about themselves and they were not disappointed as engines were fired up, neon lights turned on, multi-tone air-horns cut through the evening air and children and adults alike where offered the chance to sit inside all of the cars plus the superbly converted Ford Van, which were on display.

Although the turnout at Noche del Coche is quiet during the winter months, during the summer over 50-cars have been on display, attracting film cameras and TV Crews to document the event for local and Valencian TV. In total, over 200 different cars have been on display in the last ten months, going to show how the classic and specialist car scene has grown among International residents since the very first classic car event was organised, back in September 2006 as part of the ‘Last Night On The Prom' celebrations at Eras de la Sal.

On Sunday, there was another display of classic cars at Di Vinci's Bistro, in San Luis. Called the aptly named ‘Sunday Drivers Club' it's a daytime version of Noche del Coche inviting owners of classic, future classic, American Muscle, Hot Hatches, Tuning Cars, Marvellous Minis, Great British Marques, Italian Exotics and even a few bikes and trikes, to enjoy meeting and chatting with fellow owners in an event which is free and open to everyone, car owners and interested visitors alike.

Apart from the cars, the breakfast at the café was very popular among those that needed warming up! Noche del Coche meets on the last Friday of each month and the Sunday Drivers Club every last Sunday.

If you missed these events, don't worry too much as there is plenty more for fans of classic cars to see and do during the month of February. On Sunday the 6th, Ace Café has their regular display of cars at La Torre Hotel in Los Montesinos from 11:00 until 13:00.

On Saturday 19th, there is another display of classic and interesting cars and bikes at La Torre as part of the Business Group Espana's Open Day and we are awaiting confirmation of the annual Saint Christopher Celebrations which are expected to happen on Torrevieja's seafront at the end of the month.

Which brings us nicely back to February 25 when Noche del Coche will next meet at Marina Salinas followed by the Sunday Drivers Club at Di Vinci's Bistro on Sunday 27th.

And some say there isn't anything to do at weekends around Torrevieja! If you are a car nut or petrol head, now you know otherwise! For more information please call Nick on 609063614 or visit www.NocheDelCoche.com
