For a city of its size Torrevieja has one of the most enviable social services records within the Valencia Community. Last Tuesday, in front of the City Hall, Mayor Pedro Hernandez Mateo was on hand to present the latest vehicle in a growing fleet of transportation to help the physically and mentally disabled citizens of the City.
The vehicle, valued at €30,000 euros, was presented to the media by Torrevieja's Mayor, Pedro Hernandez Mateo, Councillor for Social Welfare, Maria Dolores Canales along with the Director of Caja Madrid for Valencia and Murcia, José Blanco, accompanied by two of the four local branch managers, Eduardo Grondal and Katarina Merolla.
The latest adapted vehicle is easy to spot in its Caja Madrid graphics, as the bank has donated the van to the City, which will be allocated to Social Services and the Association of Civil Defence Volunteers. This donation is part of an initiative set up last year called 'Solidarity on Wheels.'
