SNOW SALT

Whilst much of Spain has been gripped by winter weather, with thick snow laying on high grounds and coastal locations pounded by rain and wind, we also have to spare a thought for our friends and family who are currently freezing in the UK.
The recent cold snap saw November minimum temperature records fall across the UK. Most notably both Wales and Northern Ireland recorded the coldest November night since records began. In Wales, temperatures fell to -18.0 °C at near Llandrindod Wells, Powys. Northern Ireland recorded -9.5 °C at Loch Fea.
Scotland recorded minimum temperature of -15.3 °C at Loch Glascarnoch, whilst England recorded -13.5 °C at Topcliffe in North Yorkshire.
Is it any wonder that the UK turns to Spain for assistance? Well, the UK and just about every other country across the globe! As one of the largest exporters of salt, Spain´s network of trucks and boats swung into action once more, packing themselves thick with salt, ready to be spread across roads and driveways, as well as your fish and chips of course.
Major salt producing areas such as Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca become notoriously busy at this time of year, with trucks queuing from the main road and ships anchored outside the harbor, waiting for their turn to load from the historic platform, now modernized, and transport the produce to wherever the need might be.
So, whilst we winter weather has eased a little, we can now spare a thought that we are still helping keep Britain moving, or at least the army of workers who brave any weather are, and we can celebrate the results of their labour.
