MODERNISING TORREVIEJA BUSES

In addition to the recent news that Torrevieja hopes to be served with a direct bus link to Alicante Airport, plans have also been approved for the construction of a new bus station at a location thought to provide better access to the overall transport infrastructure.
The new bus station will be located on the site of the current “Eco Park”, opposite the Habaneras shopping centre, with direct access to the CV905 and N332 arterial roads. The Eco Park will be relocated to a site behind the municipal dog pound.
Work has already started on cutting a roadway through from the semicircular roundabout near Habaneras to the roadway access point of the Torreta urbanisations.
At the same time of the relocation taking place, it is also believed that a new system of monitoring the free travel of residents of the city will be implemented. Of the 90,000 free bus passes issued by the city of Torrevieja, it is believed that around 45% of them are being used fraudulently. The new system of micro chipped cards will prevent this misuse and ensure a better monitoring of their use. All municipal buses will have automatic card readers installed to enable passengers to use the technology freely. The cards will also be able to be used to allow access to cultural attractions in the city, such as the theatres and galleries and may be able to be sold, providing visitors with freedom to use the public facilities too.
