NUTS TO HONDON

Hondón de los Frailes saw its annual “Nut-In” take place on Sunday 19th September at the home of Richard and Patricia.

The sun blazed down as 20 volunteer “nutters” went through the orchard in time honoured fashion, spreading nets and using nut-knocking sticks to gather the almonds.

A far better than expected harvest was gathered in and the helpers were given a “thank-you” feast. The almonds will be bagged and sold on behalf of the SAT animal centre in Dolores. Last year the almonds raised around 700€ for the charity which offers refuge and medical assistance to many dogs. There are always animals requiring urgent attention and then needing loving homes. If you feel you could offer such a home to one of the dogs, or have spare time and – like Patricia – act as a volunteer, please telephone 966 710 047

Our photo shows Patricia and Richard with just some of the nuts collected, together with the most enthusiastic “nutter” of them all – Paddy the dog.
