The weather was perfect for driving and as we were coming from different directions, the meeting place was the Circuit de Velocidad on the outskirts Albacete.

Fifty people in twenty four classic cars arrived for lunch and unbeknown to the members, our President, Steve Adams had also organised a drive round the Circuit for those brave enough (or foolish enough) to have a go. When the boys had finished playing with their toys, we had a very pleasant leisurely drive to our four star Hotel in Alcázar de San Juan.

The following morning we began our journey “in Search of Don Quixote” by visiting Villafranca de Los Caballeros where we had a group photograph taken around the statue of Cervantes sitting at a table writing the book, after which we visited Consuegro and the working windmills.

There followed a visit to the Castle accompanied by a guide which was most informative.

We continued on our route over the mountains to a lunch stop at Venta Del Quixote Restaurant where we were served some of the local dishes, then a drive around the villages and a steady drive back to the Hotel.

Day three started by a drive to Argamasilla de Alba where we were shown round the prison where Don Quixote was interned, then a drive around the Lagunas de Ruidera to our lunch stop which was a family run concern, then visited the Cueva de Montesinos . Once again, a leisurely drive around the villages back to the Hotel.

Day four was again filled with wonderful scenery and lots to do. In the morning we visited Campo de Criptana where there were lots of windmills to visit on the top of the hill, also a coffee stop which was very welcome.
