LEARN SOMETHING NEW ABOUT SPANISH CUISINE AT LA PLASA

La Plasa

For those out there that can remember a kinder era of TV Chef, the likes of Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet or even Fanny and Johnnie Cradock, then you should head on down to Torrevieja's La Plasa, the Central market, where each Saturday at 11.00am free cooking classes are being held, demonstrating different styles of cooking, regional dishes, specialities, main dishes, deserts and even tapas.

There are only 15 places to actually participate but everyone is welcome to go along and watch the action.

It's been full houses over the last couple of weeks and in recognition of the fact that Torrevieja has now twinned with Ovideo, two weeks ago two Asturian meals were prepared, in a style very reminiscing of Irish Stew, which is probably not surprising as this area of Spain receives the same sort of weather and is possibly the greenest area of Spain! On Saturday last, Torrevieja's ‘Housewives' Association' took charge and prepared a Torrevejense style meal with Cake Balls Almendra along with showing what could be done with those all important ‘leftovers'!

The entire performance and explanation is all in Spanish but some of the participants have a few words of English and it's a fun way to while away your morning whilst learning something new about Spanish cuisine.
