Ultra light weight lilos capable of reaching speeds of 90mph are set to be the new trend sport this winter after Austrian and Swiss ski resorts confirmed they were setting up special slopes for the devices.

Known as airboards they were invented in Switzerland and because of the extreme speeds the special runs are now being set up so that riders can test the devices to the limit.

The airboard has the added attraction that it is easy to carry – consisting of a urethane-coated nylon that deflates to fold up for easy transport.

The airboard also differs from a regular sledge in that it uses hand pressure and shifting of the body weight to steer rather than the legs.
