ORIHUELA ASKED TO REMOVE FRANCO SYMBOLS

Socialist Councillor Ana Mas is insisting for the second time that Orihuela complies with the Law of Historical Memory and removes all Francoist symbols from the streets of the city. She says that all streets bearing such names should be renamed backing up her request with a petition signed by over a thousand residents. She has since forwarded the petition to the Ministry of Justice.

In her request to the Ayuntamiento she recalled that the ombudsman, Enrique Mugica, had said that he would be submitting to Parliament a report of Orihuela's failure to comply with the law of December 2007.

Ana Mas additionally requested (also for the second time) that the City Council revoke the award made to Francisco Franco of a "gold medal of the city.”
