Places of interest in Spain – Torrevieja

For those who want to enjoy their holiday and make it memorable, the most ideal place is Torrevieja; a municipality administered town of the Alicante province of Costa Blanca situated on the south east side of Spain. This beautiful town has a history; it was the place where cottages had been built for the labor. But in course of time the salt mine was shifted from La Mata to Torrevieja. Thereafter the town saw improvements on the economic front. In addition to this, the government made efforts to improve the tourism industry and now the town is the most sought after place of visit by tourists.

The beach:

The church:

The Immaculate Conception church of Archpresbyteral believed to have been built in 1798 was actually destroyed in a devastating earthquake. But this church was rebuilt to its past glory and now it is never missed by any tourist who visits Torrevieja. This is one of the most important places to visit in this town. The church is also known for its architectural beauty and the beautiful natural environment in and around it.

Ethnological museum:

One of the interesting aspects of tours in Spain is the museums. Every town, every province has a museum. The museum apart from collection of various works of art and artifacts also tries to focus attention on the particular town, its history, etc. That is true of the museum in Torrevieja. This ethnological museum focuses its attention on the influence of the Sea on the life of local population like fishing, influence of Salt industry, salt handicrafts, etc. It also gives a vivid insight into the salt industry. The museum is divided into various sections or groups for the convenience of the visitors.

Moor’s tower:

Most ideally located for a spectacular view of the sea, it was actually intended to be used as a watch tower against enemies of sea pirates. This tower is believed to have undergone several changes from the time it was built in the 14th century. The tower retains its glory even to this day.
