NUMBER OF FAMILIES IN NEED RISES CONSIDERABLY
San Javier Town Hall has joined forces with Caritas to provide basic needs for families in emergency situations. The agreement has been signed by mayor of San Javier, Pepa Garcia and the Pastors Juan Pedro Fernández and José León. This will enable 70,000 euros of money from Social Services, to go to help families in desperate need of food, clothing, electricity payment, water payment and housing.
Pepa Garcia reminded those present at the act that the Town Hall had been collaborating with Caritas for some years. She said that the excellent work carried out buy the charity was irreplaceable, stating, “They help first and ask questions later”. Their 20 volunteers work selflessly to solve a huge range of problems. Caritas in Santiago de la Ribera have noticed a huge surge ion the number of families in need of help.
They helped 240 families in 2009, compared to 123 in 2008. The number of Spaniards in need of help increased notabaly, to 11% of all those who approached Caritas for help. Moroccans, Bolivians and Ecuadorians were the other nationalities who were most in need.
