Three years after opening and the region’s leading hospital has another string of accolades to add to its name. It is now over three years since the momentous inauguration of the Hospital of Torrevieja and Department of Health 22, which adopted the responsibility for the health of citizens throughout the area during October 2006.
The hospital was launched comprising a series of external appointment surgeries, its own Laboratory and Radiological Service, and a Management sector to coordinate operations throughout the eight health centres for the south of the Alicante Province, located within Guardamar, La Mata, Torrevieja clinics at Calles Acequión and Patricio Pérez, Orihuela Costa, Pilar de la Horadada and San Miguel de Salinas.
One week on and the hospital was already fully operational, with additional departments opening to include Emergencies, UCI the Surgical Block and wards.
STUDY
The hospital has since welcomed rapid expansion and improvements in all departments and been nominated as one of the best hospitals in the country. Its latest achievements have been granted at a national level through the 10th edition of the Consultora IASIST’s ‘Premios TOP 20’ awards ceremony.
IASIST is an independent health care consultancy which studies health care standards in Spain, and has accredited the centre with four prestigious awards in various categories. These have included awards for the best Trauma, Digestive Surgery, Respiratory departments and above all the best hospital in its category.
The results were collated from a patient satisfaction study conducted last year, which focused on 263 hospitals across the country.
For the second consecutive year, Torrevieja has been recognized for its efforts; on this occasion being accredited for its superior trauma and orthopaedic surgery departments; the best results in the Respiratory and Digestive surgery field, and once again been named as one of the Top 20 hospitals in the entire country!
Managing director of the Centre, Luis Barcia, affirmed that “The dedication and effort displayed by the team at Hospital of Torrevieja has been reflected through the achievement of these awards, and I am proud to announce has resulted in the hospital being named among one of the best in the country, for the second time in its three short years in existence. Torrevieja also gained more awards in this 10th edition of the Top 20 than any other hospital, which is concrete evidence that we heading in the right direction”.
An amazing achievement for everyone connected with the hospital, and who knows, maybe it will work its way up to the top ten next year!
